Welcome to The Art of Wrestling.com
This site showcases a selection of the Wrestling Paintings
by Nancy Ostrovsky
and provides a way to purchase hand signed (for a limited time) reproductions.
It also gives the paintings historical context along with philosophical
insights as to
why wrestling, and The Art of Wrestling, is so important in this "technological
era."
(To read a Short Treatise on The Art of Wrestling click
here).
There are 23 reproductions, and they are only available through
this web site.
They are 11" x 17", computer generated on card stock, suitable for
framing and priced affordably. The reproductions have been used for awards (Outstanding
and Most Improved Wrestler), and adorn the walls of many homes, offices, wrestling
rooms, and coaches' offices.
The original paintings are owned as a collection by Paul Widerman and Nancy Ostrovsky
and are not for sale.
Occasionally Nancy has done commissioned work. Paintings have
been auctioned at fundraisers for
the Syracuse Wrestling Program that was held at Tavern on the Green in NYC;
and also at the dinner commemorating Dave Schultz in Philadelphia, PA. Nancy
can be contacted directly through this site.
We in the wrestling community are fortunate to have an artist
of Nancy's caliber dedicate energy to our sport. This site makes her
work accessible world wide, and helps to educate people of the importance
wrestling plays in our culture.
Help us keep wrestling alive by enjoying the exhibition,
encouraging others to visit, and of course purchasing reproductions. The
site is new, still under some construction, and will keep evolving. We look
forward to hearing your thoughts and will post comments if you write to us.
Sincerely,
Paul Widerman, Jan, 2004
